Council awards Crest Canyon utility undergrounding contractWork is set to begin at the Crest Canyon Utility Undergrounding District next month, with the City Council on Sept. 8 awarding a $7.1 million construction contract that came in $1.8 million below an earlier estimate.
The contract award to TC Construction Company, Inc., clears the way for trenching and equipment installation to begin in October along Crest Road, Avenida Primavera, Oribia Road, portions of San Dieguito Drive and other streets near Crest Canyon.
To complete the project, crews will dig 19,610 linear feet of trenches to bury 12,520 linear feet of overhead cables serving 152 properties.
The contractor is expected to finish in fall 2026.

Recycling event diverts 17 tons from landfillData from EDCO show residents took full advantage of a free event Sept. 13 to responsibly recycle and also load up on free mulch and compost.
During the Del Mar Recycles event at Shores Park, 100 participants offloaded: 4,250 pounds of paper for shredding; 124.2 pounds of batteries; 315 pounds of lightbulbs; 13.6 pounds of sharps; 779.20 pounds of e-waste, and 906 pounds of donations for Goodwill.
On the outbound, residents hauled off 5.13 tons of mulch and 9.1 tons of compost for their gardens.

Rules for realtors re: Open House signsSigns advertising a residential property for sale, or an open house, may only be posted by the occupant of the adjacent dwelling unit or with the permission of the occupant and may only be posted in residential zones.
The maximum area of a temporary sign, as measured on one side, may not exceed 5.5 square feet.
The Del Mar Municipal Code prohibits posting any sign, or portion of a sign, that encroaches into public rights-of-way. Signs must not block motoristsโ, cyclistsโ or pedestriansโ sightlines, or otherwise conflict with the publicโs health and safety.
Prohibited locations: Commercial zones, City-owned properties, parks, beaches, bluffs, or within an environmentally sensitive resource area. Signs affixed to utility poles, or any city infrastructure such as streetlights, trees, traffic light poles, or any City sign, are strictly prohibited.
Signs found in violation of the Del Mar Municipal Code will be confiscated and subject to fees of $25 per sign.

Round-the-clock railway work is scheduled for this weekendRound-the-clock construction is scheduled this weekend as SANDAG proceeds with its Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Program.
During the "Absolute Work Window," passenger and freight train service will be suspended between Oceanside and downtown San Diego to allow for nonstop construction.
Starting tonight, residents near the railway could hear noise from construction equipment and see bright lights illuminating work areas.
Parking restrictions and access to bluff trails may be limited.
The work is part of SANDAG's Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization 5 project. The railway closure runs from 10 p.m. Sept. 19 through 5 a.m. Sept. 22.
Construction is expected to continue through mid-2027.

Fairgrounds hosting sessions for 2050 master plan At locations throughout the county, members of the public can weigh in on plans for Fairgrounds 2050, a master-planning initiative for the State-owned Del Mar Fairgrounds, Surf & Turf Recreation Center and Del Mar Horsepark.
In a notice issued this week, the 22nd District Agricultural Association, the State agency responsible for the properties, announced a schedule of open houses "to hear about all the hopes, dreams, aspirations and advice you have for us..."
The six sessions begin Oct. 1 in Poway and end with one in Del Mar scheduled for 6 p.m. Nov. 18 at The Sound.

"I have long admired the objectives of DMCC in assisting older adults to remain at home as well as being a vibrant part of the Del Mar Community," Tullie said in a press release.
The Grief and Loss Sharing Group meets at 10:30 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of each month in the library at St. Peterโs Episcopal Church, 334 14th Street.
