Public Safety UpdateFire Department Update This week the Fire Department responded to 3 traffic collisions, 3 fire alarms, 1 bike accident, 1 structure fire response, 1 vehicle lock-in, 1 public service call, 1 lift assist, 1 vehicle fire, 1 hazardous material, and numerous medical calls. Crews also attended a class this past week with other CSA units training on a new Patient Care Report (PCR) system. We have used a portable system in the past utilizing Palm Pilots and ended up switching back to carbon copy sheets that crews would use to fill out pertinent patient information on scene and later enter the information on a computer back at the fire station. This new system and program will utilize iPads and will allow crews to use those same iPads to enter information while performing inspections and pre-planning on Businesses and multi-occupancy units. Beach Conditions This past week was a mix of larger than average surf and some nice weather. With the above average surf height, public warnings and announcements about water conditions were conducted regularly. We had a special visit from an Elephant seal pup early Tuesday morning which was stranded on the beach. Lieutenant Jon Edelbrock captured the pup and it was picked up by Sea World rescue to be rehabilitated and eventually released back to the wild. Our staff was honored to be included at a Career Day event at Earl Warren Middle School; we sent a lifeguard team member who shared with students details about the day to day work of the profession.
