 The replacement of a decades-old water valve got two thumbs up from the Public Works department this week. The job, which required traffic detours and a brief interruption of water service, went smoothly despite challenges presented by incorrect drawings from the 1960s and 1970s.

City prepares for heavy rainsWith heavy rain in the forecast this weekend, the City is offering free sandbags to residents and preparing streets, storm drains and staffing to deal with up to two inches of rain expected through Sunday.
Residents can self-fill up to 10 sandbags between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on business days at the Public Works Department, 2240 Jimmy Durante Boulevard.
Meanwhile, with a flood watch issued by the National Weather Service for late Friday through Saturday night, Public Works crews have cleared debris from storm drains and have placed sandbags at strategic locations throughout the City.

Taxpayers Association salutes partnership with Del Mar Community ConnectionsThe San Diego County Taxpayers Association on Wednesday saluted the City's partnership with the nonprofit Del Mar Community Connections with a prestigious "Golden Watchdog" award.
Presented during the association's annual Goldens Awards ceremony in San Diego, the accolade recognizes the Essential Transportation Program, which is underwritten by the City, managed by Community Connections and made possible by more than 30 volunteer drivers. The program provides free rides to nondriving older adults in Del Mar.
