Tuesday: Workshop to review status of lagoon restoration project

Researchers from the Marine Science Institute at UC Santa Barbara are hosting a public workshop to review the status of the San Dieguito Wetlands Restoration Project from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, at the Del Mar Civic Center, 1050 Camino Del Mar.

The scientists are monitoring conditions at the wetlands after a $100 million restoration program was completed in 2011.

Starting in 2006, Southern California Edison restored 150 acres of tidal wetlands to compensate for harm to marine life caused by operations of the now-shuttered San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. The utility continues to pay for dredging of the lagoon inlet, which permits the tidal flushing needed to maintain good health of the wetlands.

The UC Santa Barbara scientists are monitoring the restoration project under contract with the California Coastal Commission.

ADU

City releases ADU survey

Are you interested in building an accessory dwelling unit on your property? If so, what would it take for you to agree to rent that ADU to low-income tenants?

Those are the key questions the City of Del Mar asks in a brief survey.

As part of its State-certified Housing Element, Del Mar has set a goal of creating 15 ADUs for low-income households by April 2029. The survey is designed to help the City meet that goal.
