Final round-the-clock railway closure is scheduled for this weekend
The last in a series of round-the-clock, weekend-long railway closures is scheduled to run from late tonight through Monday morning as SANDAG proceeds with its Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Program.
During the "Absolute Work Window," passenger and freight train service will be suspended between Solana Beach and downtown San Diego to allow for nonstop construction. In recent months, SANDAG has scheduled several of the closures.
The closures are expected to resume in the fall; project planners thank residents for their patience.
Starting tonight, residents near the railway could hear noise from construction equipment and vehicles and see bright lights illuminating work areas.
Parking restrictions on the westernmost segment of 8th Street began on Tuesday and will remain in place through Saturday.
The work is part of SANDAG's Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization 5 project. The railway closure runs from 10 p.m. March 21 through 5 a.m. March 24.
Construction is expected to continue through mid-2027.
