Designs for median landscaping heading to City Council

Conceptual landscaping plans to spruce up the medians on Del Mar's major thoroughfares are heading to the City Council for approval Tuesday, April 7.

The council also will consider whether to approve $120,585 for the firm MW Peltz & Associates to prepare final designs for drought-tolerant landscaping and irrigation improvements on segments of Camino Del Mar and Jimmy Durante Boulevard.

As proposed, design layouts envision "landscape painting," in which large areas are planted with a single plant variety to produce bold areas of color arranged in artistic patterns.

Construction could begin as soon as the 2027-28 fiscal year. A conceptual project estimate places costs at $1.77 million to $1.95 million.
