Del Mar lifeguards, firefighters and public works crews were first on scene early Wednesday after a section of bluff collapsed at North Beach. No injuries were reported.

Tuesday: SANDAG to present on bluffs projects

Representatives from SANDAG on Tuesday are scheduled to deliver a presentation to the Del Mar City Council covering  the Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Phase 5 and Del Mar Bluffs Access Improvements projects. 


The bluffs stabilization project is expected to continue through mid 2027; SANDAG is studying design alternatives for the access improvements. 


The Coastal Commission requires the improvements as part of its approval of the stabilization program.

Tuesday: City Council meeting

A regular meeting of the City Council begins at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, at the Del Mar Civic Center Town Hall, 1050 Camino Del Mar. Regular City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of the month.

NB Jimmy Durante Boulevard closures continue

Intermittent closures of northbound Jimmy Durante Boulevard between Luzon Avenue and David Way continue as crew prepare for construction on the adjacent hillside. Closures can be expected from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays through April.

County seeks feedback for disaster plan update

As the County of San Diego updates its Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, officials are seeking responses to a survey. The plan identifies hazards that could threaten communities and ways to reduce the impacts of disasters. It is designed to protect people and property. 


The plan is updated every five years to reflect current conditions; the engagement survey closes April 3.

March 21: Del Mar Recycles drop-off event

Just in time for the start of spring, residents can clear clutter and collect compost and mulch for their gardens during a recycling event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 21, at the lower parking lot of Shores Park. An EDCO flyer lists items that can be dropped off.

The Del Mar Foundation is hosting its annual "Egg-stravaganza" egg hunt from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, March 29, at Powerhouse Park.

Del Mar's trash hauler, EDCO, has published the Spring 2026 issue of its "Environmental Times" newsletter. 


The lead story covers how the hauler complies with state law by using cameras and GPS technology to monitor the materials it collects.
