Utility undergrounding moves to San Dieguito Drive

With Snake Wall on one side and San Dieguito Lagoon on the other, crews this week installed conduit into trenching along narrow San Dieguito Drive. 


Construction of the Crest Canyon Utility Undergrounding District began in October and is scheduled to continue for about 18 months.


For the Crest Canyon district, crews are scheduled to dig 19,610 linear feet of trenches to bury 12,520 linear feet of overhead cables serving 152 properties.

The City Council on Nov. 3 approved appointments to the Shores Park Master Plan Ad-Hoc Advisory Committee. The role of the committee is to provide input to the City Council on the master planning effort.

I-5 closure map

Tonight: Full closure of SB I-5 begins near La Jolla

Heads up, commuters: Caltrans has scheduled a full closure of southbound Interstate 5 near La Jolla from 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, through 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10.


The closure of all southbound lanes between Highway 52 and Mission Bay Drive is to allow for roadway work and concrete slab replacement, according to a news release. 


The closure is the fourth of several planned for the area as part of the transportation agency's $113.7 million I-5 Asset Management Project.

Thursday: Meet and greet raptors at Town Hall

Sharyl Massey and three live raptors will be the guests of honor during a Del Mar Foundation talk from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Del Mar Civic Center Town Hall.


San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy is cohosting the event, which includes displays of artwork by Sue Britt and photography by Del Mar resident John Weare.

Members of the public can weigh in on plans for "Fairgrounds 2050"โ€” a master-planning initiative for the State-owned Del Mar Fairgrounds, Surf & Turf Recreation Center and Del Mar Horseparkโ€”during an open house 6 p.m. Nov 18 at The Sound, 2260 Jimmy Durante Boulevard.

Today through Dec. 17: Canned food drive 

In cooperation with the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, the City of Del Mar is hosting a canned food drive through Dec. 17 and has placed collection receptacles at the Del Mar Civic Center and the Beach Safety Center. A flyer from the food bank lists most-needed food items.

Electricity provider recruiting advisory committee members

The Clean Energy Alliance is recruiting residents to serve on its Community Advisory Committee.


Committee members provide feedback to the board and serve as a liaisons to their communities. Details are included with the application paperwork. The recruitment closes Dec. 22.


As the default energy provider for Del Mar and neighboring cities, Clean Energy Alliance serves customers with electricity from renewable sources.

Del Mar Community Connections welcomes "The Free Spirits" comedy troupe to  perform from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Del Mar Civic Center Town Hall.


The award-winning, improvisational comedians range in age from 59 to 90.
