About the Park and Recreation Committee
The Parks and Recreation Committee was established in 1979 to administer the parks and scenic preserves and to plan for specific development of open space.
This committee is dedicated to providing oversight of the city's beautiful parks and open space areas. Some of these areas include Powerhouse and Seagrove Parks, Riverpath Del Mar, the City Tennis Courts, and other city-owned grounds enjoyed by our residents and visitors. The committee also works to improve access within and between the parks and the beach.
Examples of recent committee accomplishments include the redesigned children's play area (Tot Lot), improved bluff-top access at Powerhouse Park, and landscape beautifications along Camino del Mar. The committee is currently assessing a network of pathways to make the town more walkable. The committee actively considers citizen's requests, proactively pursues improvements with the park areas, and works with city staff to solve park deficiencies.
