Organic waste is defined as food waste, green waste (landscape trimmings), nonhazardous wood waste, and food-soiled paper waste that is mixed in with food waste. An estimated 41% of waste put in landfills is comprised of organics that could be diverted or composted.
Green waste (yard trimmings) can be picked up in your green bin, alongside your trash and recycling bins. Food waste cannot be placed in your green bin. Del Mar does not currently have curbside pickup of food waste, but there are some ways that residents can manage their own food waste. Detailed information is located on Del Mar’s Zero Waste page.
