Storm drain replacement

A badly-corroded, corrugated metal storm drain is on its way out as workers this week started to replace it with 24-inch, reinforced concrete pipe.

The pipeline, which crosses beneath Camino del Mar at 10th Street, is one of two being replaced as part of the Downtown Streetscape Project.

Earlier, a replacement storm drain was installed at 11th Street.

The $7.2 million project includes new sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, street furniture, landscaping, paving and other improvements. Construction is scheduled to run through August. The Downtown Streetscape Project was first envisioned in 1996 as part of a citywide street and sidewalk improvement program.
