The 1100 Block

Downtown Streetscape construction this week continued to concentrate on the east side of the 1100 block of Camino del Mar. Since the project began in January, the 1100 block has represented the most involved block so far, with new construction stretching from storefronts to the highway. Crews have built curbs, sidewalks, brickwork and drainage.

More of the same is scheduled for the week ahead, including construction of a retaining wall and pedestrian ramp at the northeast corner of Camino del Mar and 11th Street. Work on the 1100 block is scheduled to continue through the week of March 25 to complete the pedestrian ramp and paving of parking spaces.

Week of March 18

In addition to continued construction on the 1100 block, crews are scheduled to begin vegetation clearing and demolition and to begin pouring sidewalks on the 1000 block. Demolition and sidewalk construction also is scheduled to begin on the 900 block.

Streetscape in a nutshell

The Downtown Streetscape Project will beautify Camino del Mar and improve safety between 9th and Plaza streets. The $6.8 million project includes new sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, street furniture, landscaping, paving and other improvements. Construction is scheduled to run through June. The Downtown Streetscape Project was first envisioned in 1996 as part of a citywide street and sidewalk improvement program.
