Tuesday: Planning Commission to consider SB 9 draft ordinance

The Planning Commission on Tuesday is set to consider Del Mar's draft implementation ordinance for Senate Bill 9, State housing legislation that allows for multiple units and lot splits on property zoned for a single dwelling — all without a public hearing.

City staff is requesting that Commissioners prepare a recommendation on the draft ordinance for the City Council.

Under SB 9, qualifying properties can be developed with up to four units on a lot zoned for a single dwelling unit. Developers can subdivide a lot zoned for one unit into two parcels to accommodate up to two residential structures on each new parcel.

The Planning Commission meets at 6 p.m. May 9 at the Civic Center Town Hall, 1050 Camino del Mar.

Tonight and tomorrow: Photo exhibition at Town Hall

The Arts Advisory Committee is hosting a photo exhibition tonight and tomorrow at the Civic Center Town Hall, 1050 Camino del Mar.

Tonight's viewing runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and includes a dance performance at 6:15 p.m. Tomorrow, a general viewing is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m.

May 18: Bike Anywhere Day

May is National Bike Month, a salute to bicycling as a form of transportation, recreation and leisure. SANDAG is celebrating by organizing Bike Anywhere Day, with pit stops and giveaways from 6 to 9 a.m. May 18.

One of the stops will be at the parking lot of Lifeguard Headquarters, 1700 Coast Blvd., where members of our Community Services Department will hand out T-shirts made by SANDAG and plenty of encouragement to riders.

Friday comedy nights return with show tonight

First Friday comedy shows return to the outdoor amphitheater at Camino del Mar and 15th Street starting tonight.

The free, stand-up performances run from 8 to 10 p.m. on the first Friday of every month through the summer.
