Wednesday: San Dieguito Wetland Restoration Project public meeting

Researchers from the UC Santa Barbara Marine Sciences Institute are set to host a public meeting on the status of the San Dieguito Wetlands Restoration Project from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. May 3 at the Del Mar Civic Center Town Hall, 1050 Camino del Mar.

Presenters will deliver results of monitoring from 2022.

During the mid-2000s, Southern California Edison funded an expansive restoration of the lagoon to compensate for marine life harmed by operations of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. The utility continues to pay for periodic dredging of the lagoon inlet.

UC Santa Barbara's monitoring program covers ecology and evolution, marine conservation, policy and education. The two-year program is funded through December 2023 by a $6.7 million grant from the California Marine Sanctuary Program.

Members of the public can attend the meeting in person or on Zoom.
