City Council readopts Housing Element

The City Council voted unanimously April 3 to readopt Del Mar's 6th Cycle Housing Element and forward the document to the State Department of Housing and Community Development for certification. The 235-page document reflects revisions requested by State authorities. The Housing Element provides strategies for Del Mar to meet its obligation of 175 units, including 113 lower-income units.

Del Mar launches online permitting portal

The Planning Department has launched on online tool to provide real-time, online access to project and building permit information.


The tool, eTRAKiT, allows users to apply for select planning projects and building permits. Users also can pay fees, upload plans and monitor the status of permits and projects in real time.


New applicants who wish to view information on an active project or building permit must request a login from the Planning Department: planning@delmar.ca.us.


No login is required to search for basic information such as status, description and dates of application and issuance.

Jon Edelbrock

Jon Edelbrock recognized for 30 years of service

The City Council on April 3 formally recognized Chief Lifeguard and Community Services Director Jon Edelbrock for 30 years of service to Del Mar and for "making excellent service to the community a top priority."


Mayor Tracy Martinez presented Edelbrock with a proclamation at a meeting attended by his wife and daughter and many lifeguards. 


In 1992, Edelbrock began his career in Del Mar as a seasonal lifeguard.

April 28: Ice cream social 

The Del Mar Community Connections Social and Good Times Committee invites older adults to partake in goodies from the Sweet Treats ice cream truck from 1 to 3 p.m. April 28 at the Del Mar Civic Center plaza, 1050 Camino del Mar.


The ice cream social includes crooning from a barbershop quartet. Bring a friend or neighbor or just yourself to the no-cost get-together. Reservations are required.

April 16: Grand reopening party for tot lot

Construction of the new tot lot at Powerhouse Park is almost finished and a party to celebrate and have some fun is set for 1 to 4 p.m. April 16.


Friends of the Powerhouse is organizing the event.

April 15: Meet and greet Walking the Wall author

Meet and greet Brier Miller Minor, author of "Walking the Wall," 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 15 at Julie's Beach Life, 1440 Camino del Mar.


The author is a descendant of Snakewall builder Coy Burnett and spent many summers on the property.

April 13: Foundation hosting talk with cellular regeneration expert

The Del Mar Foundation is hosting a presentation by Dr. Duc S. Dong of the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute 6 p.m. April 13 at the Del Mar Civic Center Town Hall, 1050 Camino del Mar.


Dong will deliver "Augmented Regeneration: Unlocking our healing potential" as part of the Del Mar Foundation Talks series.

April 19: Community cleanup

Are you participating in DMVA's Keep Del Mar Clean Community Cleanup? Leave it to DMVA to turn trash-picking into a good timeโ€”when the work is done, participants are invited to a happy hour with Kovรฉ Brewing on the Monarch Ocean Pub patio with prizes for a few lucky volunteers.
