2022 Fuel Reduction Program: 15.45 tons recycled

During two weeks this summer, residents cleared 15.45 tons of brush and yard waste from their property for the annual Fuel Reduction Program. 

In cooperation with EDCO and the Fire Department, the City provided free bins for residents to fill with yard trimmings to reduce the volume of combustible material in neighborhoods.

For this year's program, which ran from July 25 through Aug. 5, EDCO recorded the following data:

• 15.45 tons (30,900 pounds) total green waste removed;
• 71 3-yard containers delivered and removed; and 
• 100 percent of green waste was recycled.

Monday: Tennis courts closing for improvements

Improvements to public tennis courts at 21st Street are scheduled to begin Monday and run through Sept. 12.

The top-to-bottom refresh of the City-owned courts includes resurfacing, a paint job, new nets, hardware and signage.

Sept. 12: Workshop on benefits of electric v. gas appliances

The Sustainability Advisory Committee is hosting a workshop on the health benefits of electric versus gas appliances 6 p.m. Sept. 12 on Zoom.

The discussion will explore the advantages of induction cooktops, heat pump water heaters, heat pump space conditioners and similar appliances.

The meeting also will address building electrification legislation that moves to eliminate the use of natural gas in homes and commercial buildings.

Sept. 13: Sunset Soiree

The Rotary Club of Del Mar is hosting its annual Sunset Soiree from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Del Mar Plaza.

The event raises funds for charitable causes.

The club donates generously to the City of Del Mar.
