One week left in filing period for City Council candidates

One week remains to file candidacy papers for one of two City Council seats before the Aug. 12 deadline. 

The seats currently are filled by Mayor Dwight Worden and Councilmember Terry Gaasterland, whose terms are expiring.

Nomination papers and information packets are available by appointment at City Hall during normal business hours. 

City Council members serve four-year terms.

EDCO begins billing

Del Mar's new solid waste hauler has mailed its first round of bills to customers with commercial bins and is set to mail its first quarterly bills to residential customers on Aug. 8.

The invoices cover collection services for July, August and September.

In future cycles, residents can expect to receive their three-month trash bills at the beginning of each quarter. Unlike those of the previous hauler, charges for EDCO's services will not appear on the bimonthly utility bill issued by the City of Del Mar.

On that topic, residents this month will see final charges from the previous hauler reflected on their City utility bills. 

EDCO is developing online, by-phone and automated payment options. Details will be included with the company's bills and will be posted online.

EDCO says it is staffing additional customer service representatives Aug. 13 in anticipation of extra call volume.
