Water Authority delivers update

Colorado River Aqueduct

San Diego County Water Authority officials updated the City Council July 24 on pressing issues the regional wholesaler faces.

Mel Katz, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Del Mar's representative to the 24-member agency, delivered the presentation together with Kelley Gage, Acting Assistant General Manager.

The update addressed diversification of water supplies, changes in the Water Authority's leadership and the planned detachment of member agencies from Fallbrook and Rainbow, which seek to join Riverside County in search of cheaper water. An election is expected this fall.

If the detachment is approved, Del Mar ratepayers are estimated to face an increase of $51,000 per year.
