The long-awaited replacement of the playground equipment at Powerhouse Park begins in December and is set to continue through February 2023.
After nearly 19 years, wear and tear from thousands of little hands and feet have taken their toll on the play structures overlooking 15th Street beach. The Powerhouse Park Tot Lot Renovation Project calls for replacing the equipment, rubberized surfacing and swing sets. A new, “ocean-themed” design includes a swing set, custom climbing structure that supports a wider range of age-appropriate play, sand pit table, and several small pieces of ground-based play equipment.
The project also includes an upgraded drainage system and vegetation pruning to improve views.
Hardscape, donor bricks, landscaping and the existing shade structure will remain as they are.
Project costs are estimated at $376,000, with a state grant and fundraising from the Friends of the Powerhouse covering most of the costs. Donations can be made to the Friends of the Powerhouse.
During construction, the playground will be fenced and inaccessible to the public. The public is asked to stay clear of the work area.Open webpage
