The City Council on March 21 unanimously approved a five-year contract with the County of San Diego and San Diego County Sheriff's Department for general and specialized law enforcement and traffic services.
Del Mar has contracted with the Sheriff for law enforcement since its incorporation in 1959.
The new agreement is based on negotiations with representatives from nine contract cities and is effective July 1 though June 30, 2027.
Del Mar's costs for Year 1 are $2.7 million. For the first two years of the contract, costs have been negotiated to increase by 1%. For Years 3-5, costs will increase by 3.5%, which places the projected costs for the 2026-27 fiscal year at $3.1 million.
