The City Council on June 7 voted to initiate a competitive procurement to retain a long-term solid waste and recycling hauler when an existing agreement expires in June 2022.
City staff expects to solicit bids with a request for proposals to be issued in August.
To inform the solicitation, residents and businesses are asked to comment on what matters most to them for solid waste and recycling services. Comments on cost, customer service, reliability — and any other aspect of trash and recycling collection — can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
An existing, 10-year agreement with Waste Management is set to expire in June 2022. The $13 million franchise is one of the City’s highest-valued contracts.
In addition to value and quality of service, a key aspect of the solicitation will be to identify a contractor with the capacity and qualifications to meet new State requirements for recycling and the diversion of food waste.
