On Feb. 16, the City Council and City Manager CJ Johnson announced that she will be leaving the City of Del Mar effective immediately.
The City Council would like to express its appreciation to Ms. Johnson for her hard work and dedication to the residents and employees of the City of Del Mar during a challenging and difficult time for the City. Under her leadership, the City successfully responded to an unprecedented, 30 percent drop in its operating budget, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, while maintaining essential services to the community.
Mayor Terry Gaasterland stated, “CJ skillfully led the organization with competence and the highest integrity. As a new Mayor, I am grateful for CJ’s guidance as she worked with me and the City Council to develop policies, prioritize competing needs, and respond to a myriad of tough issues. I know that I speak on behalf of the entire City Council when I say she will be successful in her future endeavors. We wish her well.”
Ms. Ashley Jones, Director of Administrative Services, will function as the Interim City Manager, while the City Council considers filling the position of permanent City Manager.
