The San Diego Section of the American Planning Association is saluting the Del Mar Civic Center and Downtown Streetscape Project with enthusiastic letters and awards.
The Civic Center has won the Association’s “2020 Implementation: Small Jurisdiction” award:
“The Del Mar Civic Center is a credit to the planning profession in the San Diego/Imperial County region,” Awards Jury Chair Elizabeth Dickson says in a letter. “The Del Mar Civic Center exemplifies the planning profession’s important contribution to sustainable and context-sensitive design. The Awards Jury is particularly impressed with the level of access, the undergrounding of the parking, and the creativity used to secure funding.”
The Association also recognized the “high-quality work” of the Downtown Streetscape Project:
“Camino del Mar Downtown Streetscape exemplifies the planning profession’s important contribution to urban design that enhances the pedestrian experience,” Dickson wrote. “The Awards Jury is particularly impressed with level of detail in the plan, the robust outreach strategy, and the innovative strategies to address stormwater.”
Shortly after it opened, the Del Mar Civic Center won a 2018 Orchid for Architecture from the San Diego Architectural Foundation.
