A fully-renovated tot lot at Powerhouse Park opened in April 2023. After 18 years, the elements and wear and tear from thousands of children had taken their toll on the playground overlooking 15th Street beach.
The project included all new play structures and rubberized surfacing. An ocean-themed design includes a swing set, climbing structures that support a range of age-appropriate play, sand pit table and several small pieces of ground-based play equipment. The project included drainage upgrades and vegetation pruning to improve views. Existing hardscape, donor bricks, landscaping and a shade structure have remained in place.
Budget
Project costs are estimated at $376,000. Of that amount, $180,672 were covered by a state grant, with $45,000 in required matching funds from the City. The Friends of the Powerhouse contributed generously toward the project.
