City of Del Mar Introduces Pre-Paid Parking

As part of Del Mar’s contribution toward an economic stimulus plan, the City will soon offer pre-paid parking permits with several advantages.
The permit allows parking at any meter or pay machine for as long as you wish, any day, any time. The permit owner simply hangs the permit from the rear view mirror and voilà, the payment is finished! No more hauling buckets of coins for meter feeding. No more rushing back to the car interrupting a surf session. No more struggling with reluctant children or interrupting barbeques because that parking receipt is expiring.
And, there is more. The permit also allows parking in the shopping area’s time-limit zones for double the posted limit. That would mean three hours free in the 90 minute zone and up to 4 hours free in the 2 hour zone. This would be plenty of time for lunch and a shopping spree!
The cost for all this parking is relatively inexpensive considering the potential price of meters, up to $3 per hour, and citations at $40 each. At 5 hours a week for the meters and one cite a month, a driver will spend $740. Instead, for an entire year’s parking privileges, the price will be only $700. For that peace of mind, priceless!
Permits are available at the City Hall Finance Department, 1050 Camino Del Mar, from 9:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. There are no residency requirements.
