The City of Del Mar has prepared and submitted a letter of response to the Master Plan and Environmental Impact Report (EIR) circulated by the 22nd District Agricultural District (the Fairgrounds) last October. The Fairgrounds Master Plan outlines a variety of projects proposed on the 340-acre site over the next 25 years. The projects range from renovation of existing buildings to construction of new facilities, including a 330-room hotel, exhibit halls, a health club and sports training center, and new entry gates and signage. The Master Plan calls for the existing Del Mar Fire Station to be relocated to another property along Jimmy Durante Boulevard.
The City’s response to the Master Plan and associated Draft EIR was approved by the City Council at its January 19, 2010 and January 25, 2010 meeting. The City’s comment letter includes concerns about various aspects of the Master Plan and about what the City believes to be an inadequate job of analyzing the potential impacts of the components of the Master Plan. The comment letter is accompanied by a number of exhibits that provide technical and historic information related to the points raised in the comment letter. The City’s comment letter and its exhibits can be viewed by clicking on the links shown below.
The Fairgrounds Master Plan and the Draft EIR documents can be seen online on the Fairgrounds website at: www.sdfair.com. (Go to “About Us”, then “Press Releases.” The October 9, 2009, press release announcing the “Notice of Availability for the Draft Environmental Impact Report - Del Mar Fairgrounds Master Plan Project” takes readers to the index of documents and attachments.) Hard copies of the two-volume Master Plan are available for review at the Del Mar Library and at City Hall.
