Safety Information

Del Mar has placed a special emphasis on maintaining a safe environment in the community.  Del Mar maintains its own municipal Fire Department which is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.  All Fire employees have completed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training and are certified to operate specialized life-saving defibrillator, combitube, and vehicle extrication equipment as needed.  Del Mar’s lifeguards are EMT certified as well with many staff members able to perform swift water and cliff rescues should the need arise.

Del Mar also participates in a number of regional safety organizations that provide additional safety services in the community.   Ambulance service is provided via contract with a fully staffed ambulance available in our local area.  The City contracts with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for police services and traffic enforcement.    Additionally, Del Mar has mutual response agreements in place with other cities and the County should additional resources be needed in the event of a major emergency.

In July 2003, the City deployed a new, full-time Park Ranger position for an additional law enforcement presence in Del Mar’s beaches and parks.

Through this combination of services, Del Mar has maintained an unparalleled record  through the proactive deployment of our safety personnel.
