Councilmember Ellie Haviland has lived in Del Mar since 1998 with her husband, Tim. Her love for this community dates back to the late 1980s, when she was a student at UC San Diego, studying economics and management science. Like many longtime residents, Ellie cherishes Del Mar’s distinctive quality of life, not just its great natural beauty, but also the tight-knit neighborhoods and collaborative decision-making.
Professionally, Ellie has an impressive background as an entrepreneur and operations executive having worked with young startup companies and helping them grow to success. She has a proven record of being able to get things done, leading teams even in the most ambiguous, complex, and conflict-ridden situations. Most notably, Ellie was an early employee and leader at Pyxis Corporation, a firm that set the gold standard for medication and supply distribution in hospitals worldwide. She played a key role in leading the company into new healthcare markets. Ellie’s hard work contributed to growing Pyxis from a startup company to one worth almost $1 billion when it was eventually acquired by Cardinal Health.
Ellie is committed to being an advocate and voice of reason for the Del Mar Community Plan and to implement smart, sustainable growth with sound financial management.
