The City of Del Mar recently was made aware of a campaign mailer related to local ballot Measure G that included what appeared to be a quote from a City staff member.
For clarification, City staff did not provide the referenced quote, nor was the City contacted in advance regarding this mailer. The quote is believed to be partial text from staff reports to the City Council on Nov. 4, 2019, and to the Planning Commission on Jan. 14, 2020. The staff reports are public documents and accessible to any member of the public.
The City is committed to providing fact-based, neutral and non-interpretive information to the public regarding Measure G. All public documents pertaining to the initiative, including a frequently updated FAQ document, are available on the City’s March 2020 Election webpage.
The City will continue to maintain a neutral position with regard to Measure G. Campaign materials produced by those in favor or against Measure G do not represent the position of the City or City staff, and should not be seen as such regardless of their content. And, while we know that it can be frustrating to members of the community, the City is not in a position to police or monitor the information contained in the Measure G campaign materials, nor would it be an appropriate use of City resources to do so.
