Want to save money on your power bill? The City of Del Mar, in cooperation with Del Mar Community Connections, is launching a Home Energy Savings Program to provide information and guidance on energy efficiency and how to take advantage of rebates. The program is funded by an Emerging Cities grant from San Diego Gas & Electric Co.
Some residents could qualify to receive an in-home energy audit, in which a professional tours the property to identify improvements that could be eligible for rebates or subsidies. Grant funding is available to provide free audits for up to 15 homeowners who meet the selection criteria. Older houses with high energy bills would benefit most from the program.
As part of the program, the City and its contractor, Rincon Consultants, Inc., will perform the energy audits and assist residents in completing applications for energy efficiency incentives and rebates. Residents without access to a computer can use one at the Community Connections computer lab.
Later this year– at dates to be determined – Rincon will host open houses to provide information on specific energy programs.
In addition to promoting energy efficiency, the City of Del Mar is exploring options to provide renewable energy to residents and business owners. Reducing fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions are goals of the City’s Climate Action Plan.
