A recent Federal Emergency Management Agency meeting on flood insurance and mapping can be viewed on a Del Mar TV video. The Local Assistance Meeting was held May 15 in the Del Mar Civic Center Town Hall.
Gregor Blackburn, FEMA Floodplain Management & Insurance Branch Chief, unveiled a new Flood Insurance Rate Map that is expected to become effective in December 2019. The map covers property north of 17th Street along Ocean Front and establishes a new coastal high hazard – or “VE” -- zone.
Blackburn and five of his colleagues fielded questions on flood insurance and mapping and explained the agency’s “letter of map change” process. The federal officials explained that maps can be modified if new data show reductions of flood risks.
