Expanded “Go Green Del Mar” website offers how-to for sustainability

From solid waste to clean water and air, a newly-expanded Go Green Del Mar portion of the City’s website is rich with information and ideas for residents to move their homes and the City toward meeting climate goals.

Del Mar’s Climate Action Plan identifies water conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction and alternative transportation as priorities for the City to reach its targets: a 15 percent reduction of greenhouse gases and 50 percent reliance on renewable energy by 2020.

Go Green Del Mar links to detailed information on how to conserve water and reduce wastewater. Renewable energy is discussed at length.  So is an ambitious program to divert solid waste from the landfill. Other topics include transportation, how to connect with environmental groups and the ways in which the City of Del Mar, with its programs and operations, is going green.

The City’s Sustainability Advisory Board advises the City Council on these matters and was a driving force behind the overhaul of the Go Green Del Mar website. The panel meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month in the Town Hall.
