On April 2, 2018, the City Council approved moving forward with a change to Del Mar’s regulations for dogs on City beaches that will allow for unleashed dogs north of 25th Street from dawn to 8 a.m., year-round. The Council also approved increased enforcement, which will focus primarily on the morning hours.
The City will initiate a process to codify the approved change, which will likely take several months to the end of the year. Until that process is complete, the current regulations will remain in place and leash law enforcement will continue to be a low priority.
Prior to the approved changes going into effect, the City will undertake an effort to educate and inform the public to ensure that all Del Mar beach goers, humans and dogs alike, have a safe and fun experience!
