In October 2016, the City Council directed Planning Department staff to proceed with the review and selection process of a qualified consultant to assist in the preparation of design guidelines for future residential and commercial development in Del Mar. Since January 2017, staff and the selected consultant, RRM Design Group, have been working together to develop design guidelines that would utilize text, illustrations, graphic displays to provide property owners and architects/designers and the Design Review Board (DRB) better understanding and interpretation of the Community Plan’s goals, objectives and policies when applying the standards of the Design Review Ordinance (DRO) to proposed development projects.
The draft guidelines for residential and commercial development have been completed and will be reviewed/discussed at the upcoming July meetings of the Business Support Advisory Committee (July 25th - Commercial Guidelines only) and the Design Review Board (July 26th – Residential and Commercial Guidelines). Interested residents and the general public are encouraged to review the draft guidelines here in advance of the meeting, provide comment, and attend the meetings if interested in learning more about the guidelines. Please email any written comments or input regarding the draft guidelines to Matt Bator, Senior Planner, at firstname.lastname@example.org . Any comments received prior to the above-listed meetings will be provided to the BSAC (commercial issues) and/or the DRB (residential and commercial issues) for review.
Following the review by the BSAC and DRB, the draft design guidelines and all comments received at the above-mentioned committee/board meeting will be reviewed by the Design Review Process Citizens’ Advisory Committee at an August 3, 2017 meeting.
