November 2020 Election

On November 3, 2020, the City of Del Mar will hold a General Municipal Election in conjunction with the Statewide General Election. The City of Del Mar consolidates its elections with the County of San Diego, and coordinates the election process with the San Diego County Registrar of Voters.

During the November election, Del Mar voters will be asked to elect three (3) members of the City Council for a term of four (4) years each.  These seats are currently filled by Mayor Ellie Haviland and Councilmembers Dave Druker and Sherryl Parks.  To date, no local ballot measures have been filed for this election. The deadline for the City Council to take the actions necessary in order to place a local measure on the ballot for November 2020, is August 7, 2020.

Candidates for elective office of the City of Del Mar must be registered voters of the City at the time nomination papers are issued, and must obtain original signatures from no less than 20 registered voters of the City.

The candidate filling period for the November 2020 election will open at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2020, and will close at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2020.  Due to COVID-19, those seeking to pull papers to run for City Council office can do so by appointment only.  If you have questions about the eligibility requirements to serve on the City Council or would like to make an appointment to pull papers to run, please contact Ashley Jones, Administrative Services Director, at or (858) 704-3640.
