General Municipal Election - November 8, 2016

The City of Del Mar's General Municipal Election is held in even numbered years on the first Tuesday after the First Monday in November. The City's General Election was held on November 8, 2016 to fill three Council seats (Term: December 2016 - November 2020).

Current election results
 released from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters indicates that Dave Druker, Ellie Haviland, and current Mayor Sherryl Parks will fill the three open City Council seats for Del Mar.  Ballot Measure Q, a transaction and use tax, was passed.  And, ballot Measure R, which would have required voter approval for certain development projects, did not pass.

Starting Thursday, November 10 through Friday, November 18, the County plans to release updated election results each business day by 5 p.m. After this date, they will post updates depending on the number of ballots remaining to be counted and the closeness of any given contest.  All updates will be posted on the County’s website with the final certified results posted no later than December 8.  Swearing in of the newly elected City Council is planned for Tuesday, December 6, 2016.

Voter Registration 

The last day to register to vote in the upcoming 2016 General Election is October 24, 2016.  Voter registration forms are available at City Hall located at 2010 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Suite 120.  Please be aware that if Del Mar is not your primary, permanent residence, you are not eligible to vote in Del Mar.  This applies even if you own property in Del Mar but do not primarily reside here.  Anyone registering to vote in a jurisdiction which is not their primary, permanent residence could be investigated and prosecuted of voter fraud.  Please notify Ashley Jones, Administrative Services Director, if you suspect any illegal voter activity.  She can be reached at (858) 704-3640 or

Nomination/Candidate Information 

The nomination/filing period is closed.  The filing period was from July 18th, 2016 to August 17th, 2016. The original filing deadline of August 12, 2016, was extended due to an incumbent not filing per Election Code Section 10516.

Campaign Signs

Unfortunately, the City has received reports that some campaign signs have been damaged and destroyed throughout the community.  This activity is against the law and violators can be prosecuted.  Please immediately notify the Sheriff’s Department if you observe anyone damaging, destroying, or stealing campaign signs so that the appropriate action can be taken.
